Lucas Torreira has confirmed that he is jetting into England to complete his long awaited move to Arsenal.
The Gunners have had a deal agreed with Serie A club Sampdoria for a number of weeks, but the deal has been put on hold due to his involvement in this summer’s World Cup.
He has played a key role in Uruguay’s run to the quarter finals over in Russia, although their hopes of claiming a third World Cup triumph were ended by France, who beat the Southa American side 2-0 in Nizhny Novgorod.
During the the tournament, Torreira’s father confirmed that his son would only have a medical after his involvement in the tournament was over, and now the midfielder has decided to skip a trip back to his home country in order to complete his move to the Premier League.
He told Telenoche: “I would have been very happy to be able to return to Uruguay with my teammates, but this is a fantastic opportunity [to join Arsenal] and I do not want to waste it.”
It is thought that the deal to take him to Arsenal is worth around £25 million, where he will become the fourth signing of the Unai Emery era, following the arrival of Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno and Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
