Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has admitted that it is an amazing feeling that some fans have started comparing his playing style to the legendary Patrick Vieira.
The Uruguayan made the £26 million move from Sampdoria this summer as Unai Emery looked to revamp the Gunners midfield, which had often been accused of lacking steel in the days of Arsene Wenger.
While it took a number of games for Emery to utilise Torreira from the start, Arsenal have always looked better when he is in the side rather than on the sidelines, with his combative nature drawing similarities to Gunners legend Patrick Vieira.
During his time at the club, Vieira helped guide Arsenal to three Premier League titles and three FA Cups in one of the most successful periods of the clubs history, and Torreira has said that the feels proud to be likened to the legendary Frenchman.
“If the fans are comparing me and my game to Patrick Vieira, that’s amazing. It makes me very proud but I need to grow a bit before I can be as tall as him!” Torreira told Sky Sports News.
“But he’s an amazing player, I remember getting up in the mornings in Uruguay to watch him. I feel very happy and am looking to help the team.
“I’m trying to improve as a player and do what’s best for the team. Right now we’re doing very well so it’s just about doing that.”
