‘Time will tell’ – Arteta discusses where Havertz will fit in at Arsenal

Mikel Arteta has said that ‘time will tell’ where Kai Havertz fits into his Arsenal side following the midfielder’s arrival from Chelsea.

Havertz became Arsenal’s first signing of the summer after crossing the capital in a £65m deal, following three mixed seasons at Stamford Bridge.

Arteta has previously suggested that he views Havertz as an attacking midfield option in his side, though the 24-year-old featured predominantly as a centre-forward at Chelsea.

The Germany international made his debut as a substitute during Arsenal’s 1-1 pre-season draw with Nuremberg on Thursday and Arteta admitted ‘time will tell’ in regards to Havertz’s best role.

“We have to see how he adapts and obviously get to know each other and build relationships,” said Arteta, as per the BBC.

“Football is about that and time will tell where he fits in best.”

Arsenal will travel to the United States this weekend for their pre-season tour, which will include friendly fixtures against an MLS All-Star side, Manchester United and Barcelona.

The Gunners expect to include Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice for the tour despite delays in finalising transfer deals for the duo, though confirmation is expected on Rice’s club-record arrival from West Ham on Friday.
