Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag says he is “happy” to work under a sporting director amid reports that Dan Ashworth will join the club.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is said to be keen on poaching Ashworth from Newcastle United and put him in charge of transfer strategy at Old Trafford.
The British billionaire’s company, INEOS, have received approval from the FA to move forward with their bid to buy a 25 percent stake in Man United.
Ratcliffe is in the process of restructuring the club’s football operations ahead of the deal’s confirmation, something Ten Hag welcomes so long as a mutual understanding between all parties on new signings.
“I am working, I am happy now, in this construction and when things change they will tell me but in a club as Manchester United you can’t do everything alone, it is impossible, you need very good people around you,” he said during Thursday’s press conference.
“I am happy but a club like Manchester United also have to look for better, never be satisfied, good is not good enough, always looking for better and always try to every day to do better than the day before.
“I think it is very important you are on one page about football philosophy, about football tactics, about the profiles of the players you need in the team so it is very important to have very good communication so you get the right players.
“It is one of the most important factors to develop a good team, that you have the right players but also the right characters. That means you have to do the right work and be aligned and it’s a long process to get the right players in.”
The Dutchman is looking forward to what the new co-owners will bring to Man United when the deal goes through. “You see and you feel that ambition, brings a mood and a spirit,” he said.
“The players and staff are aligned with the ambitions of INEOS, that’s why we are playing for Manchester United.
“We want to win and achieve the highest. We have to make strategies and execute them to prove the ambitions.”
