Ten Hag comments on Man United future following FA Cup win

Erik ten Hag admitted he does not know if he will be at Man United in the future after winning the FA Cup on Saturday.ย

The Red Devils defeated Manchester City 2-1 at Wembley thanks to first-half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo. Jeremy Doku scored late on for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Ten Hag felt the victory vindicated his belief that injuries were the key reason behind Man United‘s poor campaign. Only three members of the Dutchman’s first-team squad were unavailable for selection as they put in one of their best performances during the manager’s two year spell.

“All compliments to the team,” Ten Hag told BBC One. “We played very good to our identity. Very strong. You have seen how we can play when we have the players on board. Some were not even match fit but the performance was very good.

“I tell you [the media] this all year – when the players are fit we can play good football. A very good performance against the best team in the world.

“With a local rivalry itโ€™s there and itโ€™s much more important when you play a team from your own city. But for us it wasnโ€™t about this, it was to prove a point after so many setbacks. The team showed so much resilience and Iโ€™m proud of them.”

At his press conference before the final Ten Hag was defiant in asserting that he is part of the club’s plans next season, but when asked after the final whistle if he will be at Old Trafford after the summer he said I donโ€™t know”.

“The only thing Iโ€™m doing is preparing my team, developing my team. This is a project for me. When I came in I can say it was a mess. Now we are better. We are not where we want to be.

“Football is about winning trophies. I want to play the best football, dynamic, attacking football but in the end you have to win games and trophies. Thatโ€™s the mentality we brought in. This was our one opportunity and we did it. I’m very proud of the players and staff.”
