Erik ten Hag insists he has no regrets about taking the Man United job as he took shots at the criticism levelled at him this season.ย
The Red Devils have won just one of their last eight games as they prepare to take on title challengers Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday.
After a promising debut campaign in England, Ten Hag has come under scrutiny for his side’s underwhelming performances this term. He has overseen 13 top-flight defeats, the most the club have suffered in a single Premier League campaign.
But the Dutchman believes he retains the backing of the supporters with his job on the line in the final three games of the season.
โI think the fans have the patience, youโve seen it on Monday,โ Ten Hag said. โI see some comments they donโt. Either they donโt have any knowledge of football or they donโt have any knowledge about managing a football team or they just arenโt up to it. I think there are many people who see the problems and they are patient.โ
Man United are in danger of their worst ever finish to a Premier League season, which was seventh place in 2013/14 under David Moyes. They currently sit eighth on 54 points.
โThis is a massive club and you only realise that when you first come in, the things you have to face,โ Ten Hag said. โBut I wanted to take on this challenge and have not had one second when I regret that decision. I am really happy to be here.โ
The former Ajax boss added: โI did my job and in the first year I would say it was a good formation. We played to our levels, maybe we overperformed. In this one we havenโt and I know why, but we are still in an FA Cup final and that is a great achievement.โ
