Erik ten Hag is confident that Manchester United have the depth of squad required to handle the club’s hectic run of fixtures.
United travel to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League this weekend, the fifth fixture in a congested April that will see the Red Devils feature nine times across all competitions.
Ten Hag’s options have been reduced after leading scorer Marcus Rashford sustained a groin issue against Everton last weekend, while defensive duo Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane also picked up injuries during the Europa League draw with Sevilla on Thursday.
Despite those absences and a demanding run-in that will see United compete on three fronts, Ten Hag is confident that his squad has enough depth to finish the season strongly.
“We have to use the squad,” Ten Hag told his pre-match press conference.
”We have to win games, so we have to take the right approach [in terms of team selection] to win those games, but when have we have injuries and suspensions it is clear we have the depth in the squad [to cope with that].”
Ten Hag confirmed that the club are yet to receive a diagnosis on Martinez’s problem, with the defender visibly in discomfort after going down unchallenged against Sevilla.
The centre-back was carried from the field by Sevilla duo Marcos Acuna and Gonzalo Montiel, international teammates of Martinez with Argentina.
“It’s not even 24 hours so I don’t have a complete diagnosis. I can’t tell in this moment.”
