Ten Hag ‘angry’ with Man United owners over failing Declan Rice pursuit

Erik ten Hag has been left ‘angry’ that Manchester United’s transfer plans have been impacted by the club’s takeover situation.

United’s ownership situation remains unclear as the Glazer family stall on a decision over their preferred takeover bidder. Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe are awaiting the decision after a series of offers to purchase the club, but there has been little public news on which suitor is leading the race to takeover at Old Trafford.

The club’s takeover saga appears set to impact transfer business with the window now open and Ten Hag has reportedly been left angered by the situation.

According to The Sun, the Dutchman had been keen to make a bid for West Ham captain Declan Rice, but spending is currently restricted as the current ownership prepare to sell.

The situation has left Arsenal in pole position to sign Rice this summer, while United could miss out on further transfer targets due to a lack of progress at board level. United have also failed to offload unwanted assets so far this summer, with the likes of Harry Maguire, Donny van de Beek and Anthony Elanga among those linked with exits.

Even if a decision on a preferred bidder is made imminently, Premier League authorities would still have to complete the Owners’ and Directors’ Test which would take around ten days.
