Sunderland head to Poland on Thursday for their latest Europa League fixture against Lech Poznań.

The Black Cats have made an ideal beginning to their European campaign, but their domestic form has taken a sharp downturn. Under Régis Le Bris, Sunderland sit ninth in the Europa League standings after claiming maximum points from their first two games—beating AZ Alkmaar 1-0 before edging past SCU Torreense 2-1. In the Premier League, however, results have deteriorated badly: four straight defeats, including back-to-back 2-0 losses against Brighton and Bournemouth, have dropped them into the relegation places.

Sunderland team news

Le Bris has a major problem up front going into tonight’s match, which has led to significant changes to his side as he tries to protect players from fatigue.

Dutch striker Brian Brobbey is unavailable despite resuming training after a hamstring problem, with the club choosing to keep him fresh for the league meeting with Leeds United. Another forward, Wilson Isidor, is still out with a small complaint and has yet to return to full training.

At the back, Dan Ballard is definitely absent, while Thomas Meunier and Romaine Mundle remain on the sidelines as they recover from knee and hamstring injuries respectively.

With so many players unavailable, young attacker Timur Tutierov could be given the chance to lead the line. Malick Fofana, Nilson Angulo and Luke O’Nien are all in contention to start, and the return to fitness of Habib Diarra offers Le Bris a useful option in midfield.

Sunderland predicted lineup

Possible Sunderland starting XI: Roefs; Hume, Danso, O’Nien, Methalie; Xhaka, Sadiki; Fofana, Rigg, Angulo; Tutierov

When will the match kick off?

The match will kick off at 5:45pm BST on Thursday, 22nd October.
