Sturridge set for Premier League loan move

Daniel Sturridge is set to stay in the Premier League despite reports linking him with a move to Italian side Inter Milan.

Reports surfaced on Monday afternoon that Premier League strugglers Newcastle United had made an enquiry to take the Liverpool striker on loan for the rest of the season. It is believed that the Magpies were willing to match the Reds’ £1.5m asking price, with some even suggesting he would travel to the North East to complete a medical.

However further developments this afternoon suggest that the striker has snubbed the move to Newcastle, and will instead complete a loan move to fellow strugglers, West Bromwich Albion.

It is claimed that the England international has chosen to move to the Hawthorns over St James’ Park for ‘geographical reasons’ with him being able to remain at his home in the North West.

The Baggies will hope that Sturridge can have a similar impact to that of Romelu Lukaku, who moved to the club on loan from Chelsea. Lukaku, now at Manchester United of course, scored 17 goals in 35 appearances for West Brom.

A variety of injuries has restricted Sturridge to just 98 Premier League appearances, but despite that, he scored an impressive 48 goals.

West Brom have one of the worst strike rates in the Premier League, scoring just 19 goals in their 24 games this season, with only Swansea (15) and Brighton (17) having scored less.

Sturridge is expected to travel to the Midlands tonight for a medical with a deal being completed on Tuesday.
