John Stones has said that the Premier League is the strongest league in the world by a distance due to the level of quality all the way through the division.
Manchester City romped to Premier League title glory last season, breaking virtually every record along the way, finishing a whopping 19 points ahead of second placed side Manchester United in what was a one horse race for the vast majority of the campaign.
However, despite their incredible dominance last season, City defender John Stones is taking nothing for granted this time round, insisting that as was shown last season, even the teams at the bottom of the league can beat those at the top:
“I believe it’s the strongest league in the world, by far. Every team in the Premier League is so strong, no matter where they are in the table,” Stones told Sky Sports.
“You’ve seen last season where West Brom were having troubles, a new manager [Darren Moore] came in, they went to Old Trafford, beat United and we won the league off of that. I think that shows that any team can beat anyone and not only the top five, top six that is strong.
“At any given moment or time, anything can happen in football, but the depth in the league is good. I think it’s good because no one ever takes their foot off the gas, especially against the top teams.”
City have dropped to third in the table after wins over the weekend for Liverpool and Chelsea, but Pep Guardiola’s side will return to the summit if they beat Spurs tonight at Wembley.
