Stoke City will offer Wayne Rooney a mega money Manchester United escape according to reports today.
England’s all-time leading goal scorer has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester United this season, and has been left out of many of the clubs big games, including the Europa League final victory over Ajax last week.
This has left many people doubting whether Rooney will still be at Old Trafford next season, with the striker admitting himself that he is considering his future at the club.
The Sunday People claim that Stoke City are plotting a shock £45m move for the England skipper.
Stoke owner Peter Coates is the owner of bet365, the clubs Stadium and shirt sponsors, and wants to fund a big money move for Rooney.
Rooney has previously been linked with moves to China, the MLS as well as former club Everton, but Stoke are throwing their names in the hat.
Coates wants to exploit Rooney’s commercial value, as well as his experience on the pitch and is prepared to bankroll the audacious move. Such a move would allow Rooney to remain close to his Merseyside roots and his Cheshire home, although he has recently claimed that he would only ever play for Manchester United and Everton in the Premier League.
He has also confirmed he is considering his future, and will discuss the options with his family over the next few weeks shilst on a post-season holiday.
Rooney has been omitted from England’s upcoming fixtures against Scotland and France.
