Spurs set to win race to sign highly-rated Croatian centre-back

Spurs are set to beat a host of Europe’s leading clubs to the signing of Hajduk Split centre-back Luka Vuskovic.

Vuskovic has been on the radar of Europe’s elite after breaking into the Hajduk Split first team last season, having made his senior debut in February 2023, two days after his sixteenth birthday.

According to the Evening Standard, Liverpool, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City have all tracked the progress of the 6ft 4in defender, but Spurs are closing in on an agreement.

The north Londoners have found a breakthrough in talks with Hajduk Split over the weekend and have agreed personal terms with Vuskovic. The fee is believed to be in the region of £12m, though the teenager will not complete his move to the Premier League until the summer of 2025.

The news will come as a major boost to Ange Postecoglou given the competition from clubs across Europe, with Vuskovic viewed as a player who can form part of the long-term project.

Spurs also signed 18-year-old centre-back Ashley Phillips from Blackburn Rovers during the summer window, after activating the £2m release clause in the England youth international’s contract.
