Spurs still seeking forward signings despite Werner deal

Tottenham are continuing to assess the transfer market for forward additions this summer despite agreeing an extension to Timo Werner’s loan with the club.

The North London side have reached terms with RB Leipzig to extend Werner’s stay for a further season, with Spurs retaining an option to sign the Germany international on a permanent basis for a fee of €15m in June 2025.

Werner signed for Spurs in January as Ange Postecoglou looked to add depth to his forward line and scored twice in 13 Premier League appearances.

The 28-year-old’s extension does not impact plans for further reinforcements in the final third, however, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Spurs are continuing to assess the market for centre-forwards and wingers.

Spurs failed to sign a like-for-like replacement for Harry Kane after the forward’s exit last summer and have been linked with a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

There are expected to be a number of departures this summer as Postecoglou takes on the next stage of his rebuild, with Manor Solomon and Bryan Gil among the attackers who could leave.

Richarlison, however, has refuted suggestions that he could be among the exits.

“Fake news,” the Brazil international said on transfer rumours.

“I won’t leave England in the summer transfer window. I left my holidays to work in Brazil as I wanna return at the best possible level next season.”
