Spurs offer Harry Kane ‘massive new contract’ to stay at club

Tottenham have offered Harry Kane a ‘massive new contract’ in a bid to convince the club’s record goalscorer to remain in north London.

Kane’s current contract is set to expire next summer and the forward’s future is uncertain amid interest from a number of leading clubs.

Bayern Munich are chasing a deal to sign the 29-year-old and have seen an opening offer turned down, with the Bundesliga champions expected to test Spurs’ resolve with an improved bid. Manchester United and Real Madrid have also been linked.

Spurs have insisted that Kane is not for sale, but run the risk of losing the England captain as a free agent next summer. The north Londoners have made an effort to convince Kane to re-commit his future to the club with a contract offer that would ‘significantly improve’ his £200,000-a-week wages.

The Guardian are reporting that Kane has no intention of signing a new deal as things stand, with the forward keen to consider the options available to him.

Kane has failed to win silverware in his career to date and Spurs are facing a rebuild under new manager Ange Postecoglou after a disappointing campaign last term.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is understood to be reluctant to sanction the sale of Kane, in a transfer that would further damage his popularity after a season that saw Spurs miss out on European qualification.

Kane scored 30 league goals last season despite Spurs’ poor form and has scored a record 280 goals in 485 appearances for the club.
