Tottenham have been handed a blow to their transfer plans after one of their transfer targets has completed a move to French side, Lyon.
Spain U19 international, Papa Cheick Diop has completed a move from La Liga side Celta Vigo to Ligue 1 giants Lyon, despite interest from the Premier League club.
Tottenham lodged a £9m bid for the Senegal born midfielder a few weeks ago, but were outbid by the French side, who have now completed the deal.
Speaking to a press conference, Lyon manager Bruno Genesio said:
“He’s a player who had caught the eye of other big European clubs.
“He chose to come to Lyon, it’s important when young players choose to come here, it’s the club’s strategy to recruit youngsters for the future.
“He is capable of getting the ball through his positional intelligence. That’s what convinced us to sign him.”
Lyon are unbeaten after four games of the new Ligue 1 season, four points shy of joint leaders Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco.
