Spain will take on Austria in their Round of 32 clash on Thursday at Los Angeles Stadium.
Spain head into the knockout stage in strong form, having remained unbeaten so far at the 2026 World Cup. Their campaign began with an unexpected 0-0 draw against Cape Verde, but they quickly responded by beating Saudi Arabia 4-0.
A narrow 1-0 win over Uruguay then secured their place at the top of Group H. One of the most impressive aspects of Luis de la Fuente’s side has been their defensive strength, as they did not concede a single goal during the group stage.
Spain team news
Spain now faces some important selection challenges following injuries picked up in their intense final group match against Uruguay.
Winger Nico Williams has been ruled out completely after suffering a serious groin injury. In addition, forward Yeremy Pino is also unavailable due to a shoulder problem that is believed to be a fractured collarbone.
These setbacks will force changes in attack, with Alex Baena likely to come into the starting lineup alongside key creative players Lamine Yamal and Mikel Oyarzabal.
There are also selection decisions to be made in midfield. Dani Olmo and Fabián Ruiz are both pushing for a starting spot and could replace Mikel Merino, who is competing for a place alongside Rodri and Pedri.
At right back, Marcos Llorente and Pedro Porro are still competing closely for a starting role, leaving the manager with another key decision to make.
Spain predicted lineup
Possible Spain starting XI: Simon; Llorente, Cubarsi, Laporte, Cucurella; Merino, Rodri, Pedri; Yamal, Oyarzabal, Baena
When will the match kick off?
The match will kick off at 8pm BST on Thursday, 2nd July.
