Southampton appoint new manager

Southampton have confirmed the appointment of Claude Puel as their new manager.

Southamptons executive director of football Les Reed described the search for a new manager as “diligent and meticulous” and that the process “eliminated a number of excellent candidates”

Puel has been in management for 17-years, first taking over at AS Monaco back in 1999 after 17-years of playing for the club. He led the club to the Ligue 1 title in the 1999/2000 season.

He has since manages Lille, and Lyon who he guided to the Champions League semi finals in 2009/10. Since then, he has managed Nice since 2012, leaving this summer after leading the club to fourth in Ligue 1.

The 54-year manager has signed a three-year contract at St Marys and replaces Ronald Koeman who joined Everton two weeks ago.
