South Africa and South Korea face off in a decisive Group A clash at Monterrey Stadium on Thursday, with both sides still fighting to qualify for the next round of the FIFA World Cup.

South Africa come into this match under pressure after collecting only one point from their first two games. They began their campaign with a 2–0 loss to co-hosts Mexico, a match that slipped away after a second-half red card disrupted their shape.

On Matchday 2, they showed some improvement, earning a 1–1 draw against Czechia thanks to a late penalty. Despite that result, they remain without a win and have struggled to create chances from open play.

South Africa team news

The team faces significant challenges in midfield due to suspensions. Head coach Hugo Broos will have to adjust his central setup as key midfielder Teboho Mokoena is suspended after picking up multiple yellow cards.

Meanwhile, experienced playmaker Themba Zwane is still unavailable, serving the second game of his three-match FIFA ban.

There is some positive news, however, as Sphephelo “Yaya” Sithole returns after completing his one-match suspension following a red card in the opening game.

He is expected to return directly to the starting lineup alongside Thalente Mbatha, strengthening the midfield.

In defense, Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Ime Okon are likely to start in front of captain and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.

South Africa predicted lineup

Possible South Africa starting XI: Williams; Mudau, Okon, Mbokazi, Modiba; Mbatha, Sithole, Adams; Maseko, Appollis, Rayners.

When will the match kick off?

The match will kick off at 2am BST on Thursday, 25th June.
