Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Raphael Varane is ‘looking impressive’ ahead of the defender’s potential Manchester United debut this weekend.
Varane is in contention to feature as the Red Devils visit Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday, having been an unused substitute during the 1-1 draw at Southampton.
The France international has been getting up to speed with his new teammates after completing a £42m move from Real Madrid and Solskjaer admits the centre-back is ‘looking impressive’ in training.
“He is working really hard,” Solskjaer told his pre-match press conference. “When I asked him if he was ready to play vs Burnley behind-closed-doors last week he said ‘No, I need to suffer on the training ground first’
“He had his holidays, he came in and said goodbyes at Real Madrid, didn’t train, had visa issues, had isolation, but now he has had a couple weeks of good training.
“He is looking impressive.”
Solskjaer spoke further on the arrival of Varane, who arrives into the Premier League having won four Champions League trophies and three league titles during a decade at Real Madrid.
The Norwegian believes the club have signed ‘a top player at the right time’ and is hopeful United can provide Varane with the perfect platform for his new challenge.
“We have signed a top player at the right time. He probably needed the challenge. Hopefully, we can help him take the next step.”
