Manchester United caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes 21-year-old striker Marcus Rashford is at the same level Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo were at at the same age.
Former Red Devils striker Solskjaer played with both five time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo and Manchester United’s all-time leading goalscorer Rooney during his playing career at Old Trafford.
Solskjaer has been effusive in his praise for Rashford’s ability since taking over from Jose Mourinho just before Christmas, and when asked if was as good as Old Trafford legends Rooney and Ronaldo the Norwegian replied:
“Yes. Definitely.’’ Solskjaer said in his post-match press conference after last weekend’s 2-1 win over Brighton.
“He can be absolutely top-class. He is only 21 but the maturity he is showing at times is more than 21 and his work rate.
“The more you score the more you believe you are going to score. The more you score the more chance you have of being confident, running into the same positions.
“The way he works during the week is fantastic because he practises a lot.
“He is a proper Manc. You can’t kick him and keep him down. He will stand up for a fight and stand up for himself and a teammate. It is a pleasure working with him.”
Rashford has been in superb since Solskjaer took over as United boss, scoring five times in six Premier League appearances.
