Solskjaer opens up on why Pogba is a player to build a team around

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed why he believes that Paul Pogba is a player to build a team around as he continues his fantastic run of form for Manchester United.

Pogba moved to Manchester United back in 2016 for a then World Record fee of £89 million, and despite some stellar performances under Jose Mourinho, they were few and far between, with the midfielder rarely being given the freedom to express his creative talents.

The Red Devils eventually relieved Mourinho of his duties back in December, with United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being given the opportunity to try turn results around, a move which has seen Pogba step up to the fore, and subsequently become the most creative player in the entire Premier League.

In the nine league games since Solskjaer’s appointment, Pogba has scored eight goals and provided five assists, stats unmatched by anyone in the top flight, with the Norwegian giving the World Cup winner the encouragement to attack, as well as the offensive support to do so.

With United set to face their great rivals, Liverpool, this weekend, caretaker manager Solskjaer has discussed the qualities that Pogba brings to his team, and why he wants to build a team around him.

“He will play now. If you build your team around Paul Pogba, he is a top player. I have always liked him,” Solskjaer said in his pre-match press conference.

“He is a World Cup winner and a leader in the dressing room and on the pitch. He wants the ball all the time. I wanted him playing to the best of his ability.

“There are different types of midfielders but in his mould, there is no-one near with his physical presence, he can score goals, great close technique, he makes long runs to get into the box. He can also spray passes when he is sitting in midfield. That is not his best position but he can do it.”
