Solskjaer labels ‘excellent’ McTominay as a Manchester United ‘leader’

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised Scott McTominay, describing the Manchester United midfielder as a ‘leader’ following his impressive recent form.

McTominay has been one of the club’s better performers in recent weeks, scoring two goals so far this season, and has proven to be a catalyst in their recent upturn in form, Manchester United having won three consecutive fixtures in all competitions ahead of this weekend’s trip to Bournemouth.

The 22-year-old has produced a series of commanding performances and seems to be growing in stature within the club, while his authoritative nature has proved welcome in a United side often accused of lacking natural leaders.

United boss Solskjaer has been left impressed by the academy graduate’s recent showings alongside Fred in midfield, and believes the Scotland international will continue his development into a ‘very good midfielder’.

“He’s been excellent,” Solskjaer said at his pre-match press conference.

“Now him and Fred are working a good relationship together. They did that last season.

“He’s been excellent, he’s a leader, a United boy. He’s developing into a very good midfielder.”
