Dominic Solanke has set his sights on earning a spot in the England squad for Euro 2024 after finding the net against Manchester United at Dean Court on Saturday.
The striker opened the scoring just 15 minutes after kickoff when he pulled the trigger from range for just his second goal from outside the box this season.
Bruno Fernandes equalised on the half hour mark, but Justin Kluivert regained the lead for the Cherries soon after.
The hosts could not hold on for the win, however. Fernandes converted from the spot following a handball by Adam Smith, although Bournemouth had a penalty of their own reversed by VAR after the foul was deemed to have occurred outside the area.
“I don’t score too many from range so it’s nice to get one,” Solanke told Sky Sports after the full-time whistle.
“I knew that I started the game well, I got the ball and saw him slip out the corner of my eye. I just had one thing on my mind and it was a good finish.
“Football is crazy sometimes I wouldn’t have thought I would score this many this season. We’ve been great this season and the manager has been great since he came in I’ve had a lot more chances this season, the style of play it’s suited me and I’ve benefited from that.”
Solanke is now on 17 Premier League goals for the season, with only Ollie Watkins (18) and Erling Haaland (20) scoring more this term. His impressive scoring record puts him in the conversation for Euro 2024.
“I would love to be there, everyone would love to be there, playing for your country in a big tournament,” he said.
“I just need to keep scoring and try and get as many as I can and I can be in with a shout.”
Not only has Solanke scored goals than any other Bournemouth player in a single top-flight campaign, he also became the club’s second player to score home and away against Man United in a season after Josh King in 2019/20.
