Aston Villa manager Dean Smith says his side are targeting permanent additions in the January transfer window.
The Championship promotion chasers utilised the loan market well in the summer window, bringing in the likes of Yannick Bolasie and Anwar El Ghazi, whilst top scorer Tammy Abraham is also on a season-long loan deal.
Smith is keen to add to his squad in the winter window, and says Villa will be looking to strengthen with more permanent deals, after securing the £7 million signing of Croatian goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic from Ghent.
“Permanent would be the ideal situation for us. If it has to be a loan then we wouldn’t turn our nose up at it.’’ Smith told avfc.co.uk.
“But the one thing we want to do with each signing that comes in is improve the squad. We certainly believe the Croatian No.1 goalkeeper will do that for us – and certainly push Ørjan.
“But we also need players to come in and push the other players in the squad and make it a really competitive squad that can push us in this league.
“We have many irons in the fire that we’re looking to enhance the squad with. But there’s nothing we’re really close with at the moment.”
