Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has once again insisted he is aiming to gain promotion to the Premier League this season.
Former Brentford boss and life long Villa fan Smith took over the reigns at Villa Park in early October after the sacking of Steve Bruce.
Smith did not enjoy the best of starts to life as Aston Villa coach losing two of his opening three games. However, his side have now won their last two Championship games – including a hugely impressive 3-0 victory over Frank Lampard’s high flying Derby side.
“As I said from the start when I arrived, the aim is promotion,” Smith told reporters.
“At Derby, we got out first away win since the start of the season (at Hull) so that is a boost.
“And it’s two wins on the spin now which also helps.
“When this team knows how good they can be, they can go and put on a really good run of results.”
Villa’s victory over Derby sees them move up to 11th in the table ahead of next weekends second city derby against Birmingham.
