Chris Smalling has said he has been left impressed by Manchester United’s youngsters after they joined training with the senior team during the current international break.
Eleven of Manchester United‘s senior squad are currently away on international duty, while the rest of Jose Mourinho’s squad continue training back at the Aon Training Complex.
In order to make up the numbers, and of course to whet their appetite for working with the first team, Jose Mourinho has drafted in some of the clubs academy players, with United centre-back Chris Smalling being left impressed by the energy of those who have joined him in training.
“It’s great to see their energy,” Smalling told MUTV.
“It reminds you of when you were that young and you wanted to come in. We’ve had quite a lot of young players in and it’s nice to see. There must have been at least seven, eight or nine of the young ones.
“Again we’ll train with them tomorrow – I think we’re playing a bigger [sided] game. It gives every one of them an opportunity to see that pathway through [to the first team].”
