Everton manager Marco Silva feels that the new style of football that he has brought to the club is really suiting Gylfi Sigurdsson, saying that it ‘fits his profile better’.
Everton went into today’s game against Leicester having only won two games under new boss Marco Silva, but a Gylfi Sigurdsson wonder strike ensured all three points would return to Merseyside, with the Portuguese boss saying that the new system he has brought to the club is getting the most out of the Icelandic playmaker:
“It was fantastic for Gylfi,” said Everton boss Marco Silva. “His quality in that moment showed how good he is and the way he took the ball and shot was fantastic.
“He’s playing a different role [to last season] and our style is completely different. It fits his profile better.
“He has worked to get ready for this, working in training with great intensity. It’s not just what he gives us with the ball but also what he is giving us without the ball.”
Silva also added that he thought his side deserved to pick up all three points and hopes they can kick on after a less than impressive start to the season.
“We deserve to take the three points. This is our image. It will be so in the future more and more, I don’t have doubts about that,” he said. “But we have many things to do to keep improving.”
