Silva admits it is ‘important’ for Everton to sign Andre Gomes on permanent deal

Marco Silva has said that it is ‘important’ that make Andre Gomes’ loan move from Barcelona to Everton a permanent one.

Gomes swapped Catalunya for Merseyside on last summers transfer deadline day, becoming one of three players to join Everton from Barcelona alongside Yerry Mina and Lucas Digne.

However, while Mina and Digne arrived at Goodison Park on permanent deals, Gomes’ move to the Premier League is on a season-long loan, and Blues boss Marco Silva has once again reiterated his desire that the 25-year-old remains at the club beyond the end of the season.

“It is a very, very good opportunity for us,” Silva told the Liverpool Echo.

“Let’s see what the position is of his own club, we know our position and we know Andre’s position also, so let’s see what we can do.

“But what we have inside our squad, even if he is a loan player, a player with high quality, high quality as a football player, high quality as a professional, a fantastic team-mate for all his colleagues and he is everything we expect coming from a player of his quality.

“Let’s see if we can have Andre permanently in our club.”

Gomes was instrumental in the middle of the park for the Toffees in their impressive 2-0 win over West Ham on Saturday evening and Silva admitted that it is ‘important’ that the club are able to sign the Portuguese on a permanent deal.

“Again, it was a very good performance. A very, very good performance,” Silva added.

“Gana and Andre did fantastic and with Gylfi, our three players in the middle zone, they did fantastic.

“It (signing Gomes) is really important but let’s see what we can do. All of us inside the club are really happy with him, all of the fans enjoy seeing him play football, Andre is enjoying what he is doing at our club.

“Let’s see what we can do. You know my opinion, he is really important for us but, in the end, it will be business and, as you know, it is not my job.”
