Manchester United defender Luke Shaw admitted his side showed Italian giants Juventus too much respect during their 1-0 loss at Old Trafford tonight in the Champions League.
The home side were completely outclassed by the visitors especially during the first half, with Argentina striker Paulo Dybala scoring the only goal of the game in the 17th minute when he stroked home from close range.
Although Manchester United did improve a bit after the break they failed to create any real clear cut chances and there was a clear gulf in class between the two sides throughout the game.
Speaking after the game Shaw did, however, take some solace from the fact that United’s rivals for second spot in Group H drew away to Young Boys early this evening.
“I think first half we gave them too much respect we let them play far too easy, in the second half we tried and for some reason again we performed better in the second half, we pushed on but didn’t create many chances and like I said we gave them too much respect,” he told BT Sport.
“We trained for them, we knew what was coming, in the first half we gave them too much time on the ball we should of been pressing higher. At least Valencia didn’t win, now we have to go to Juventus and get a result.”
