Luke Shaw insists there is ‘much more to come’ from Bruno Fernandes following the midfielder’s impressive start to life at Manchester United.
The Portuguese international has starred since his mid-season arrival from Sporting Lisbon, scoring three goals and providing a further three assists in his first seven appearances for the club, including a brilliantly improvised free-kick to set up Anthony Martial opener during Manchester United‘s 2-0 derby victory last weekend.
The 25-year-old has added creativity to a previously unimaginative Red Devils’ midfield, and teammate Shaw says the side are happy for the winter window signing to continue attempting to unlock defences, regardless of the risk of losing possession.
Fernandes’ arrival has also coincided with an upturn in form for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side who remain firmly in the hunt for a top four finish as well as cup success this season, though Shaw believes there is still plenty more to come from the playmaker who has quickly established himself as a firm fans’ favourite at Old Trafford.
“At times we know he’s going to lose possession, but we need them sort of risk passes that are going to unlock defences,” Shaw told the Daily Mail.
“He’s been a brilliant signing so far and he’s already come in with a few assists and a few important goals.
“We will keep pushing the standards and we’ll keep pushing him because there’s so much more from him to come.”
