Sarri pays tribute to Chelsea fans after Southampton win

Chelsea continued their excellent start to this Premier League season by beating Southampton 3-0 today at St.Mary’s.

Maurizio Sarri’s side showed no signs of a Europa League hangover, with goals from talisman Eden Hazard, Ross Barkley and Alvaro Morata sealing a comfortable win for the Blues on the South Coast.

Speaking after the game Sarri paid tribute to the Chelsea fans, who could be heard singing their team on throughout today’s encounter, while the 59-year-old also revealed that he thinks his side can improve defensively.

“I think that we have played a good match and I am really very happy for our fans because I think our support today was excellent,” Sarri told BBC’s MOTD.

“I think we can do more in the defensive phase. In the second half, we have given them two or three opportunities so we can do more.

“I know Eden Hazard very well, we have never seen 100% from him. He is improving, but I think that he can do better.

“It’s important for Alvaro Morata to play like he did in the last game of the Europa League and the last 30 minutes today.”

Chelsea now go into the international break in second place in the Premier League, having leapfrogged Liverpool on goal difference.
