Chelsea made it three wins out of three in Europa League Group L by beating Belarusian side BATE Borisov 3-1 last night at Stamford Bridge.
England international midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek was the star of the show netting a hat trick of superbly taken finishes to make it a comfortable nights work for Maurizio Sarri’s side.
Loftus-Cheek has long been heralded as one of the biggest talents to come through Chelsea’s youth academy in recent years, although he has struggled to make it into the Blues match day squad let alone their starting XI for much of this season.
Despite the 22-year-old’s heroics last night Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri insisted the talented youngster still has a fight on his hands to nail down a regular spot in the Stamford Bridge outfit’s star-studded midfield which features the likes N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Ross Barkley, Cesc Fabregas and Jorginho.
“At the beginning of the season he was a very good player and now he is a good player that is more suited to my style of football.’’ Sarri told BT Sport.
“But we have a tactical problem, because we have four midfielders with very similar characteristics. Eden Hazard is more attacking and N’Golo Kante is more defensive, but it is very hard to play four midfielders with similar characteristics. We have to continue to work with all our midfielders at work in the defensive phase.”
Next up for Chelsea is an away trip to Burnley this Sunday in the Premier League.
