Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has admitted that Liverpool are a step ahead of his side after the Blues failed to keep pace with Jurgen Klopp’s side at the top of the table.
Chelsea and Liverpool went into the game as the only two teams with a 100% record, and while the Anfield side comfortably brushed aside Southampton with a 3-0 win on Saturday, Chelsea were unable to keep up after being held in a goalless draw against West Ham.
The Blues next game is in fact against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, and speaking about the clash, Maurizio Sarri has said that the Premier League leaders are a step ahead of his side due to the fact the players have worked with Jurgen Klopp for a number of years, while he has only been in charge since July.
“We have to play against a very, very good team,” Sarri said.
“Against a team who have worked with the same coach for three or four years. They are a step forward of us at this moment.
“We have started to work all together 35/40 days ago and, 40 days ago less 10 for the international break, so for us it’s a bit early. We have to work then, maybe, in one year we will be at the same level as Liverpool.โ
