Maurizio Sarri is widely expected to be appointed as Chelsea boss this summer and Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has hailed his colleague as one of the best in the business.
Chelsea’s board are currently locked in complex negotiations with Napoli to have the 59-year-old released from his contract, even though the Serie A side have already hired former Stamford Bridge boss Carlo Ancelotti as his replacement.
Sarri has spent much of his managerial career in the lower reaches of Italian football, although he has won many admirers for his progressive possession based football since moving to Napoli in 2015.
His Napoli were renowned for playing some of the best possession based football in Europe in recent seasons, and they pushed Juventus close for the Serie A title this season, amassing an impressive 91 league points.
One man has clearly been impressed is Premier League winning is Guardiola who said:
“He’s one of the absolute best,” Guardiola told RMC Sport.
“We judge people on what they’ve won, but the football played by Napoli this season has been out of this world. He did very well, seeing Napoli play is a spectacle.
“If he comes to the Premier League it’d be a pleasure to face him.”
