Maurizio Sarri has suggested that he will allow Thibaut Courtois to leave Chelsea this summer if he isn’t fully motivated to stay at the club.
The Chelsea goalkeeper has been heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer, with Real Madrid the most likely destination, after previously saying he wants to be closer to his kids who just so happen to live in the Spanish capital.
His agent made a public plea to the Premier League club to show some compassion for his client and to grant him a move to the European champions, however, speaking after his side’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Commmunity Shield, Sarri has said he only wants to hear it from the player.
“I have no reaction on the agent,” Sarri said in his post match press conference.
“I am not interested in the agent, I want to hear from Courtois.
“If Courtois tomorrow says the same to me, then I have to speak with my club of course, because I only want players with very high level of motivation, but I don’t have anything to answer to the agent.”
Courtois is due to return to training tomorrow after enjoying an extended break following his exertions with Belgium at this summer’s World Cup.
Chelsea are thought to be willing to allow him to leave, but only if they can bring in a replacement before the transfer deadline on August 9.
Courtois could of course complete a move away from the Premier League after that date, with transfer windows elsewhere in Europe open until the end of the month.
