Maurizio Sarri has insisted that Eden Hazard does not need to move to Real Madrid in order to win the Ballon d’Or, and he can win it at Chelsea.
Hazard has started this current Premier League campaign in the form of his life, already notching seven goals and three assists in just eight games to help steer Chelsea level on points with current leaders and reigning Champions Man City.
His blistering form have seen rumours of a move to Real Madrid resurface, with Hazard once again doing little to extinguish them, describing a move to the Bernabeu as a ‘dream’ on more than one occasion.
However, with some muttering his name as a candidate for the Ballon d’Or in the future, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has challenged him to guide the Blues to Champions League glory and give himself a chance of being crowned the best player in the world while still at Stamford Bridge.
“He is a fantastic player. It will be important for us if he remains with us,” Sarri said in his pre-match press conference ahead of the visit of Manchester United.
“But I think also that he can win everything, also the Ballon d’Or here, without playing in Spain because if Chelsea are able to win the Champions League and Belgium win the Nations League he will be able to win everything without playing in Spain.”
Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has claimed that Hazard is a slave by being kept in London by Chelsea after the Blues refused to sanction a sale last summer, but Sarri also rejected that notion, insisting that his number 10 is ‘always very happy’.
“I don’t think so,” he said the Italian. “In the last three months I have seen him always very happy. It’s not true.”
