New Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has revealed that David Luiz is a key part of his plans for the upcoming season.
Luiz returned for a second spell at Chelsea from PSG in the summer of 2016, and went on to prove many of his critics wrong with a string of hugely impressive displays at the back. He was an important player for the Blues as they won the Premier League title under Antonio Conte in his first season back at Stamford Bridge.
However, the 31-year-old fell out of favour with Conte last season after a disagreement over tactics and also struggled with injury for much of the campaign.
Many observers thought Luiz could be headed for the Stamford Bridge exit door yet again this summer, although Sarri has now confirmed that the ball playing centre-half is an important part of his plans.
“I’m very happy with David, for his attitude. I’m very happy,” Sarri told the press ahead of his sides Community Shield fixture against Manchester City tomorrow.
“I think David will be very important for the team, to support me.”
