Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has praised ‘great player’ Jorginho after the midfielder scored the winner in Sunday’s West London derby.
The Italian fired home an emphatic winner at Craven Cottage after Fulham’s Callum Chamber’s had cancelled out Gonzalo Higuain’s opener for Chelsea, with Sarri’s side now two points behind fourth-placed Manchester United having played a game fewer.
Sarri was full of praise for £50m summer signing Jorginho, with the playmaker having been much maligned in recent weeks, including being booed by sections of the Stamford Bridge crowd.
‘I’m very happy for him. He scored, but my opinion of Jorginho is the same.’ Sarri told his post-match press conference.
‘He is a great player, one of the best in Europe in that position. For him it’s not easy the first season in a new team. Today he was very tired in the last part of the match. We were lucky Kovacic entered very well on the pitch.
‘In that position we had some problems. We are trying during training with Kovacic and his answer was very good.’
