Chelsea and Liverpool meet in the first top of the table clash of the Premier League season, on Saturday, at Stamford Bridge. Maurizio Sarri spoke to the media today, ahead of the game.
Sarri was asked if he thought that his Chelsea team would have a psychological advantage because of their League Cup win against The Reds on Wednesday.
“I don’t think so. Tomorrow [Saturday] is another match in another competition with a different starting eleven. Maybe they can increase their determination after Wednesday. It was a difficult match on Wednesday and it will be a very difficult match tomorrow. Maybe it will be an open match like the one on Wednesday.” Sarri told his pre-match press conference.
The Italian manager was eager to take some of the focus away from The Blues, highlighting that Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp are a lot farther down their road together than Sarri is with Chelsea.
“They are a top-level team. They have worked with the same coach for four seasons, and they are ready now to win the Premier League.” He added.
Sarri will certainly be looking to show that his Chelsea team are not to ignored in the Premier League title race, this season. Liverpool and Klopp got a taste of just how strong this Chelsea squad is in their League Cup meeting on Wednesday.
However, there is no doubting that Saturday’s meeting is the bigger of the two fixtures and it will be a case of all hands to the pump for both sides in the battle for first position in the Premier League.
