Sarri once again calls on Chelsea to improve defensively despite latest victory over Crystal Palace

Chelsea moved up to second place in the Premier League table today after beating a spirited Crystal Palace side 3-1 at Stamford Bridge.

In form striker, Alvaro Morata, put the Blues ahead with a sharp finish on 32 minutes, although Palace looked like they could get something from the game when Andros Townsend equalised soon after half time.

However, Sarri was able to call on star attacker Eden Hazard with 25 minutes to go and within five minutes of the Chelsea talismans introduction, Morata and Pedro had scored to seal the win for the home side.

Despite Chelsea remaining unbeaten after 11 Premier League games, Sarri once again warned that his side must improve defensively.

“We were a little bit in trouble so we needed some quality and personalty. We were lucky because we had Eden [Hazard] on the bench. He was able to immediately change the match,” Sarri told BBC’s MOTD.

“From the first day, Manchester City and Liverpool are at the moment a step ahead of us. When I arrive the gap from last season as 30 points with City. It is difficult to think you can recover this gap in one season, in six months. We need to improve more because we are doing well.

“We need to improve from a tactical point of view. In the first 15 minutes of the second half we were not compact. In the defensive phase we need to improve. When we can’t cover the ball in the opponent’s half we are in trouble. So we need to improve.”
