Maurizio Sarri has told Chelsea fans that they should show Jose Mourinho some respect due to everything has done for the club over the years.
Mourinho is Chelsea’s most successful manager ever, winning three Premier League titles over the course of his two spells at Stamford Bridge and being universally adored by Blues fans everywhere.
However, his relationship with the fans of his former club has taken a downward slide since he became Manchester United manager in 2016, with the ever familiar chant of “F*ck off Mourinho” ringing around Stamford Bridge following this weekends 2-2 draw against United.
Before the game, Mourinho had promised to be restrained in his celebrations against his former side, and kept his end of the bargain until the death when he was provoked by Marco Ianni following the Blues 96th minute equaliser.
Ianni celebrated wildly in front of the Portuguese, who reacted angrily on the touchline before the Chelsea fans rounded on their former boss.
Mourinho responded by holding up three fingers to the crowd to remind them of the titles he delivered to them during his time at the club, and when asked if the 55-year-old deserves more respect from the Stamford Bridge faithful, current incumbent Maurizio Sarri has said that he does:
“Yes. Mourinho here has won and so I think that we need to respect him and to respect everybody who has won a trophy for the club.”
