Chelsea’s excellent start to life under new boss Maurizio Sarri has certainly taken many footballย fans by surprise, including himself.
The Italian tactician is more than happy with how things have gone for him at Stamford Bridge so far, with the Blues just two points off top spot in the Premier League table.
Sarri spoke with the media today ahead of their game with Crystal Palace this Sunday, answering very honestly when asked if he expected his Chelsea managerial reign to get off to such an impressive start.
“No. In every experience I have done before, I was in trouble in the first two months! I thought it would be the same here. Here I was lucky because the players were able to win without a very good level of tactical organisation.” He told his Friday press conference.
Chelsea areย in third-placeย just behind Manchester City and Liverpool in the league table, having won seven of their ten league games so far and remain undefeated.
Sarri’s men are also top of their group in the Europa League and already through to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup after overcoming Derby County in midweek.
After Crystal Palace on Sunday, Chelsea travel to play BATE Borisov in Europe before a home fixture with Everton on Sunday week in the Premier League.
