Maurizio Sarri has admitted that his Chelsea team needs to start scoring goals and overcome their current barren spell.
Chelsea have only managed three goals in their last four Premier League games and Sarri wants to see a noted improvement when they welcome Newcastle United to Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
“We need to score, of course,” Sarri told his pre-match press conference.
Sarri did seem to be happy with how his side had played in their 1-0 League Cup semi-final defeat to Spurs during the week, but again Chelsea’s main problems were in front of goal.
“In the last match, we played very well, with continuity. With a great performance from the physical point of view, but we didn’t score.” He added.
“Now we have this problem. We need to solve this problem.”
Eden Hazard is Chelsea’s top scorer this season with 10 league goals. Sarri has experimented with Hazard playing in a more central attacking role due to the struggles of Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud.
The Blues have also been linked with a big-money moves for Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson and AC Milan’s Gonzalo Higuain in this transfer window.
Whatever the solution is to their attacking issues, Sarri needs to discover it soon as The Blues continue to battle for a top-four spot in the Premier League.
Chelsea are also still going strong in the Europa League. They are into the fourth round of the FA Cup and need to overturn that one-goal deficit against Spurs in the second leg of their League Cup semi-final.
