Jadon Sancho is reportedly attracted by the prospect of becoming ‘the leading star’ at Manchester United as the winger prepares to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer.
The England international has emerged as the club’s number one transfer target this summer following another stand-out season in the Bundesliga, though Manchester United will face strong competition for his signature with the likes of Chelsea and Barcelona also amongst the clubs reportedly monitoring his situation.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side remain confident of signing the 20-year-old in a deal that will exceed £100m despite their inability to guarantee Champions League football, with Sancho reportedly excited by the prospect of the side potentially being built around his talents.
German journalist Raphael Honigstein says that Sancho finds the prospect of a move to Old Trafford ‘quite appealing’ despite their current transitional period, given the leading status he will command in the club’s developing side.
“I think United, certainly want a player of his appeal and prospect to build a new squad around. He’s English and that’s part of their thinking,” Honigstein said on The Athletic’s Steilcast.
“Manchester United can’t promise titles to [Jadon] Sancho straight away. But they can promise him to be the leading star in a new team that is emerging.
“From what I’ve been told that is quite appealing to him.”
Sancho has starred for Dortmund to fire the club into title contention prior to the suspension of football amid the coronavirus crisis, scoring 14 goals and providing a further 15 assists in just 23 league appearances.
