Ever since Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger announced his decision to end his 22 year association with the Gunners by stepping down as manager at the end of the season, many of footballs biggest names have been queuing up to pay tribute to the 68-year-old.

The latest in a long line of players to hail the impact the French coach has had on their careers is Manchester United attacker Alexis Sanchez.

“I texted him yesterday to wish him the best. I could not say anything on social media but I texted him and he replied to me saying thank you to me.

“It’s sad because he is a historical football legend, I always said he is a gentleman and a football master, he taught me a lot about respect and to be professional.

“I’m just so thankful to him.”

Wenger signed Sanchez from Barcelona for £35 million in 2014, and although the Chile international controversially moved to Old Trafford in January, he obviously still has a huge amount of respect for his former coach.
