Ruben Amorim makes Man Utd transfer admission amid PSR concerns

Ruben Amorim says that Man Utd will need to sell players before they can make new signings in the summer transfer window.ย

The Red Devils are constricted in the market by the Premier League‘s Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR) due to wasteful spending over a number of years.

Co-owner Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly considering further redundancies as part of his major cost-cutting plan at the club, having cut 250 jobs last year.

Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu arrived at the club last month for ยฃ1.5 million and ยฃ45m respectively, but only after Man Utd offloaded Marcus Rashford, Antony and Tyrell Malacia to other clubs on loan deals, taking the vast majority of their wages off the books in the process.

The club splurged more than ยฃ600m under Amorim‘s predecessor, Erik ten Hag, but the Portuguese tactician is unlikely to be granted the same level of spending without player sales.

โ€œHere it is simple, to do something we need to sell players,” Amorim said in his pre-match press conference ahead of taking on Spurs on Sunday.

“We know with the moment of the club, I have to understand these problems but that problem is not new, you knew the rules of [Financial Fair Play], we have a problem at the moment.โ€

Asked how a new raft of job losses would affect his current squad building, he responded: “Our biggest problem now is Tottenham. We know the moment of the club, of course we do. I have to understand all of these problems.

“That problem of our club is not new. We already knew all the rules of (financial) fair play. We have a problem at the moment but that can not influence how I coach the team and prepare for the next game. My focus is on that and not the other things.

“We cannot do it (sign new players) now, the window is closed. We need to focus on the games we have and then in the summer we’ll see.
