Rooney: I am still Premier League quality

MLS star Wayne Rooney says he has still got what it takes to play in the Premier League, despite leaving English football last summer.

The former Manchester United striker left the Premier League last June, departing his boyhood club Everton for a brand new venture stateside with DC United.

Rooney scored 12 goals in 21 appearances last season, helping the capital city side reach the play-offs, while also contributing possibly the greatest assist in Major League Soccer history, of course.

In a recent interview Rooney believes he still possesses the capability to compete in the Premier League, despite struggling in his final few seasons in England.

“If I’m being honest, I know quality-wise, I can still play in the Premier League,” he told CNN Sport.

“I know that. I’ve always been a confident person, and so I have high expectations of myself.

“And yeah, I’ve come here expecting to do well. And I think there was a surprise from people who have their opinions, which is fair enough, but I never doubted myself at all.”
