Ronaldo wants new Real Madrid deal after 'best season'

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo wants to sign a new deal at the Bernabeu following what he describes as his best season.

The 31-year old finished the campaign as a double European Champion, winning the Champions League with Real Madrid, before leading Portugal to Euro 2016 glory two weeks ago.

In an interview with Marca, Ronaldo said:

I spoke to the president on the phone & when I get back to Madrid, we’ll talk. Obviously renewal is something I want.

He also talks up his chances of winning the Balon d’Or for a fourth time:

Ballon d’Or is out of my hands but I’ll admit that I’m in a good position given that I won the UCL & European Championships.

This season has been the best of my career, I have won two major titles with my club and country so it was something unique
Individual awards are always won without expectations, they’re not everything. I’m not obsessed about winning the Ballon d’Or.

The former Manchester United man suffered a bad knee injury during the Euro 2016 final, and he confirmed that he will miss the start of the season.

I’m completely ruled out of the UEFA Super Cup on the 9th because I return to work [with Real Madrid] on the 10th.

Ronaldo scored 51 goals in 48 games for Real Madrid last season.
