Roma full back Emerson Palmieri is set to complete a medical before completing a move to Chelsea.

The Italian has been identified by his fellow countryman Antonio Conte as the perfect back up to current first choice left back Marcos Alonso, and now seems set to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have been trying to negotiate a double deal with the Serie A side, with a move of around £44m having been rumoured that would include Palmieri’s Roma team mate, and former Man City striker, Edin Dzeko.

However the Blues have struggled to come to a deal regarding the Bosnian, who want a two-and-a-half year deal in order to return to the Premier League, while Chelsea are only willing to offer an 18 month deal. It seems as though there will be no breakthrough with Chelsea now being linked with other strikers including Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud.

Despite the deal for Dzeko falling through, the club will now press on with a single deal to sign Palmieri.

The left back has spent a lot of time on the sidelines due to a serious injury and has now seen himself on the bench after former Aleksandar Kolarov after moving from Man City earlier this summer.

It is claimed that Chelsea will pay £17.5m to the Italian giants for the Italian’s services, and the player will complete a medical on Tuesday.
